January Mentorship Hangout

A typical gathering usually includes having a meal, chatting with old friends and making new acquaintances.

On January 31st, we gathered mentors and young leaders at the Cliff Bungalow-Mission Community Association to talk about goals. After enjoying some food together, our Mentorship Program Co-Coordinator, Shalome (newly back from maternity leave!) led the group through our timeline activity, which is an essential part of our Unveiling Youth Potential workshops. Through this activity, participants had a chance to reflect on what experiences and people had been a big influence on them over the past couple of years. We then shared these in small groups for people to get to know one another better. After having some time to reflect on our accomplishments and growth, we had everyone share a goal for the upcoming year. Elder Alice Kaquitts and her son Thomas then shared some traditional teachings related to taking care of ourselves and reaching out for support and mentorship to assist young leaders in reaching their goals. We had 18 people at the hangout including staff and community members.
